This week, YOOX and VOGUE ITALIA have unveiled the winner of the first edition of the Vogue YOOX Challenge – The Future of Responsible Fashion, a project aiming to provide support and mentorship to designers, creatives and start-ups that are boldly investing towards a more responsible and sustainable approach.
Amongst the finalists selected by a scientific committee of sustainability experts, including Giorgia Roversi, Director of Sustainability and Inclusion at YOOX NET-A-PORTER, the international jury composed by, amongst the others, YOOX NET-A-PORTER Chairman and CEO, Federico Marchetti, and Vogue Italia Editor in Chief, Emanuele Farneti, has appointed the UK-based start-up SaltyCo as the winner of the first edition of the Challenge.
SaltyCo is a start-up that offers textiles for clothing and furniture made without the aid of fresh water, but with natural textile fibres from plants that can grow in environments with salt water. The brand and its truly innovative methods were conceived by four young students who specialised in Innovation Design Engineering, with the intent of preserving the limited resources of drinkable water present on the planet by leaving it to those who need it the most.
In addition to the support from YOOX and Vogue Italia in terms of distribution, communication and mentoring, SaltyCo will also receive an award of 50,000 Euros to fund its project.
