A legacy of sustainable packaging

Simplicity, functionality and sustainability: the connected design principles behind one of the first responsible packaging solutions in fashion e-commerce. In 2009, YOOX’s ECOBOX was born. Here’s the story behind the design.

Infinity sets out a new ambition for YOOX NET-A-PORTER GROUP: to become a zero-waste business. But our commitment to protect natural resources is not new for us. Over a decade ago, we pioneered sustainable packaging in our industry with the ECOBOX at YOOX. Today, low-impact packaging is an imperative for online retailers and we are proud to have been one of the first companies to redesign and rethink our packaging footprint, minimising the waste our business generates and helping our customers to participate in a lighter footprint too.

As we transition to becoming a fully zero waste business, we stand by luxury delivered in sustainable packaging. The ECOBOX design is still as relevant for our company today as it was in 2009. We are continuing to make investments to ensure that packaging made from sustainable materials that are recycled, and easy to recycle again, is considered the norm.

Behind the simple aesthetic of ECOBOX is a complex series of design decisions and sustainability credentials.

YOOX NET-A-PORTER GROUP commits to protect natural ecosystems by becoming a zero-waste business, ensuring that 100% of our operational waste is reused, recycled or composted by 2023. This commitment falls under the Planet Positive pillar of our Infinity strategy.
